WHAT WILL YOU LEARN
THIS MONTH'S THEME IS
CLICK ON A LEARNING LEVEL TO GET STARTED
PRACTICE YOUR HEBREW AND TEFILLAH
Welcome to JPaL's online learning site. We hope that this site will be helpful in growing your Jewish knowledge and deepening your appreciation for Jewish learning as a lifelong endeavor.
Torah can be examined on many different levels, each deepening our understanding and appreciation. These levels are known by the acronym PaRDeS, which means "orchard."
Our learning is structured like the PaRDeS:
P'shat is where we gain simple understandings
Remez is where we learn to see hints of deeper meanings
D'rash is where we immerse ourselves in Jewish wisdom and interpretation
Sod is where we discover the sacred secrets that our learning holds for us
Because we know that everyone learns differently and at different paces, JPaL.online allows you to move through the PaRDeS at your own pace. You may move quickly or more slowly and carefully. Generally speaking each of these learning levels corresponds to one of our kehillot - learning communities. So if you are in Shorashim (K-1) you will begin in P'shat. If you are in Nitzanim (2nd-3rd) you will begin in Remez. If you are in Kochavim (4th-5th) you will begin in D'rash and if you are in Nachshonim (6th-7th) you will begin in Sod.
